By now most of you have probably seen the YouTube videos of kids who didn't get what they wanted for Christmas. Jimmy Kimmel ran a couple, that on the surface are funny, but as I watched them, I found disheartening.
The children's reactions to the prank gifts was probably predictable in today's world, but a sad commentary on the way they're being raised. Raised to expect the best always, and to refuse to accept anything less. What happened to being grateful for what you are given and have?
The fact of the matter is, we don't always get what we want.......but then again, maybe it's just me........I would be embarrassed if one of these videos had my child or grandchild as the "star".

Agreed.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. The video was sad, especially the kid who stated that he hated his parents. I WISH my kids would act like that if they didn't get something they wanted. It would be the last gift they would receive in a LONG time.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, people have forgotten that parenting is a job and it's HARD. They just want to be friends with their children so they give them whatever they want and then are surprised when the kids act like brats!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of you. If I had acted like that when I was little, whatever was given would have been taken away, and most likely I'd have been spanked. And, I do remember being disappointed in a gift here and there, and my mother seeing the disappointment in my face, would always emphasize that it was the thought more than the gift that counted. Not always a comforting thought when you're a little kid, but a lesson I've never forgotten. The other thought I've had about this, is the parents not thinking of how their "joke" spoke volumes about the message they're sending to their own children.....they're laughing at the very behavior they should be appalled at.......but then again....maybe it's just me!
